Here are some pages from a Hamlet Hills Newsletter but I am not sure of the year.  I’m guessing the 1970’s. I have heard about the legendary Hamlet Hills Picnics where every one of the residents were invited to Betty’s cabin. Here is some of the text:

By general agreement, the picnic at Betty Copes’ cabin on September 11 was the most enjoyable social event in the history of Hamlet Hills.  Seventeen cars lined up in front of Building I and as we took off for the cabin we made quite a procession through the village.

The weather, about which there had been some concern, couldn’t have been better.  The Henry grandchildren gave a water show, planned and directed for our special benefit by Heidi.  Several residents played shuffleboard and horseshoes.  Al of us basked in the beauty of nature and in the feeling that all was well, for how could it be otherwise in such surroundings?

And then there was the food!  Was there ever more delicious steak than that broiled by the three Henry sons on a bedspring placed over the large bed of charcoal?  The meal appeared as if by magic – it seemed a little difficult to understand when there ware so many of us.

Our hostess, Betty Cope is accustomed to providing hospitality for large numbers of guests.  She is General Manager of Station WVIZ, Community Television, and we understand better than before the success of that station.  Best had efficient help from Henry sons and daughters-in-law, but she was so busy that we never did catch her in camera range.

Charles and Blanche Henry came to Hamlet Hills from Bainbridge.  As was true of both his father and grandfather, Charles met his wife at Hiram College. Both Blanche and Charles were graduated from that school.  Charles has been Alumni Secretary of Hiram for many years.  He still works there part time.

Blanche was born in Troy, New York, but grew up in Vermont.  Charles was born in Cleveland and spent his summers on the Henry farm in Bainbridge.  The first Henry came to Bainbridge in 1815 and bought a tract of land.

The Henrys have four sons and 18 grandchildren. Three of the families live in this area.
