Story: Yes….the beat goes on!

I sat for a moment holding one measly piece of borrowed copy, starting to sweat a little, when suddenly a light went on. By some miracle I had put three of Gramma’s books in my purse this morning just as I was walking out the door. I had some thought of eventually sharing them with my boss and others. So I gave the reference to my partner in crime and said I’d be right back. I ran to my office and grabbed the books, scanning them in the hallway, placing post-it notes to look extra prepared.

My two co-workers made their references work just fine. My boss even had references so I knew I had to pull this off. When it finally came to my turn I gave a quick introduction of Gramma and her work and I proceeded to read a number of poems, including two completely apropo pieces entitled “Mother’s Day” and “Happy Mother’s Day”. The whole room lit up with laughter, compliments, and nods of agreement. I went on to say that these poems help get inside the head of a mother and what is important to her, and how crucial that perspective is when sending a Mother’s Day card. Again, nods of agreement.

I looked across the table to see my boss, Ines, shoot me a little wink and mouth the words “Nice job”.

Phew!

Thanks Gramma Janet.
