Story: Ticks Everywhere!! 1990s

We went camping at South Fork State Park with Brian, Jeanne and Keith who was about 4 years old. We also took good ole Katie dog. We took the boat and spent time fishing, took Jeanne horseback riding, we hiked, had a great time.

When we got home, we found a couple of ticks on Katie. I had one in my hair, and so we checked everybody for ticks. Well, the next morning, I was helping Keith pull up his underpants, and there was a black dot on his private part.

I thought it was dirt so I tried to flick it off, it didn’t come off and I saw that it was a tick with it’s head imbedded in little Keith’s privates.

Meanwhile, Adam and Kim (who had spent the night) and Brian and Jeanne were in the basement . I freaked out because the news was full of stories about Lyme’s disease because it was a particularly bad tick season.

Peter was at a construction site so not home. I had read that if you get something really hot and touch the back of the tick, he will back himself out. So I went and got a metal skewer and heated it up with a match, but Keith wouldn’t let me near his privates with the hot poker.

I had also read that if you put vaseline on a tick it will make them back out and un-attach. So after I caught Keith again, I stuck vaseline on the tick. The tick didn’t back out,  he just died with his head still imbedded in Keith’s privates. So I got tweezers to pull him out of Keith, but again, Keith would not let me near him with tweezers. So, I called Peter, who came home and took him to our pediatrician Dr. Bautista, a small female doctor who Keith finally trusted enough to have the tick removed. The end.
