Bang! The racing season has begun for the Bombers Girls Cross Country Team. The ladies have run in four invitationals so far this year: Berkshire Early Bird, Cardinal Mentor Classic, Tiffin Carnival and Galion Invitational. With each race most team members have beaten their races time from the week before.”I am just so proud of our whole team! We ran so well Saturday,” Lauren Pinkerton said during the long two-hour bus ride from Galion. The team placed a well-deserved third place in the Division I Race on Saturday. Their highest ranking of the season- with the first five varsity runners all crossing the finish line within forty seconds of each other.
Returning for the Bombers are lead runners, Anna Henry and Emily Moran, Kylen Hughes, Rachael Rengers, Lauren Pinkerton, Kathryn Thomas, Chelsea Rice, Stacie Sullivan, and Brittany Barnwell. Freshman Maygen Semall and Tam Surtees, and senior Sarah Minter are key contributors to the varsity team. The ladies are lead by Coach Jeannette DiBernardo; although she is new to the Kenston High School Team, Coach DiBernardo has several years experience at the high school and middle school levels.Next Saturday the Bombers run at the Cloverleaf Invitational in Lodi. When familiar faces line the course path shouting out names and cheering, it helps the runners do their best.
