Album: Mom has Hiked the Globe!

On Sunday, March 25, 2018 the Cleveland Hiking Club Sunrise Hikers awarded Jeanne Henry a special award.  She has logged 25,000 miles, the circumference of the earth!  The award is called the Globe Award and very few hikers attain this amazing feat.

She was presented a cool walking stick along with a carved wood globe shaped trophy. It was presented by two of the hike leaders, Kathryn Malmquist and Sharon Horvath.

The party was held at Dan & Cindy’s house and a complete surprises for Mom.  Many hikers and family showed up to celebrate with her.  The following poem was read by her hiking friend Merryl Carlsson:

Congratulations, Jeanne

You sure have come a looooong way On many a trail, in many places, in many countries.

You have earned far more miles, and had many more adventures than your newest CHC patch reveals.

You didn’t choose to walk only clean, easy, clear trails,

You ventured trails that were boot-sucking & muddy, icy & snowy, stony, with treacherous pebbles.

And nearly all your trails were peppered with hidden holes, rocks, and roots which you maneuvered skillfully and, mostly, with great speed.

We, your fellow hikers, admire, appreciate, and care deeply for you.

You are a role-model, a mentor, and an inspiration.
